Here’s the interview of Michele Canova with UnitePod.

Q. You have given hits after hits. So how your journey into the music industry did started out for you?

Michele: My music started when I was 4 years old. I loved playing a small keyboard that my parents gifted me. I was playing basic chords. I taught myself how to play melodies and basic chords. I then applied for Violin Conservatory Music, Padova when I was 11 years old. Then I started classical music between 11 and 16 years old. At that time, I was getting more and more in love with pop music. My transition from classical music from playing keyboards and synthesizers, I have a pretty small setup in my bedroom. I love playing with Samplers. It was just the beginning of the digital revolution of music creation where the first AWs and samplers and sequencers were basically starting to happen.

Q. So how does a normal work day looks for you?

Michele: A normal day for me starts around 6:00 A.M. I wake up and do my work out and start reading my emails having a lot of business relationship with Europe and Sothern Europe. Morning is the perfect time frame to speak with people in Europe because its afternoon there at that time. I basically spend first 3 to 4 hours of my morning doing zoom calls and exchanging text conversations and phone calls with people in Europe. And then in the afternoon I start to work on some production arrangements or mixing. Depending on the day, I may have scheduled Zoom writing session where I basically meet online a copal of song writer and we try to write a song between 4 and 6 hours. This almost is done around 4 to 6 P.M. in the afternoon.

Q. How many of the artists you worked with were able to match the line of what you have done in the studio? Is there like a norm?

Michele: It depends on the artist and what they want to achieve. Like some of them really like to recreate the same kind of emotion and sounds and bands we got in the recorded music. Some of them want to go more into live feel especially if they are playing any older song we did like a few years ago. So they basically don’t care about recreating the same kind of emotion and balance. So I would say 80% of the artists are looking for recreating the same kind of emotion and sound. The rest 20% are free to experiment. They let me experiment more with different sounds.

Q. You have worked on countless number of amazing songs. so have you ever faced any musical lumps in your musical journey? How do you manage to get back your inspiration?

Michele: Yes, it happened to me to what you called a riders block. There are two different options I have to try to overcome my writer’s block in my opinion. One is showing up in the studio every day, even if you have a writer’s block, you basically do something else. You experiments with sounds. You don’t actually write a song. You play with your keyboard. You do something else. But you still spend time in your studio. And suddenly after a week or something, inspiration comes. Or I just simply took a vacation and go somewhere else where I am not surrounded by musical instruments. That helps me to recreate the passion and will to create a musical composition.

Q. Are you working on some exciting project or would you like to share any sneak peek about any upcoming project with our listeners tuning in today?

Michele: Yes, I am working on lot of exciting and new projects. First of all I started my own record label 6 months ago called Canova Rec or Canova Records basically. I already signed seven artists. You can visit actually @canova.pro website and you can also visit it on Instagram @canovarec. On top of that I am participating in TV show called Amici Di Maria Di Fillipi. It’s a very popular show in Italy focused on music and dancing. I am acting as one of the musical producer there and its exciting because I am able to give suggestion to and choose whichever song I want to produce. Lastly I am developing new talent here in America. One of the first releases is this band called IAMYTOO. You can hear them on YouTube and Spotify as Iamwhytoo. And I am very excited for their new upcoming releases that are going to come out in 2021.

Q. Not many artists can come up with their lyrics in their own. So you have been a major backbone in the music industry. So can you share the song writing thought process of your work?

Michele: My song writing process always starts with creating a musical layer, a musical track because I don’t write lyrics. I don’t typically write top lines and melodies. I just create the music track around the musical composition of the melodies and the lyrics. So I always start with keyboards, guitar or something and I build up tracking lesson on how it works.

Q. You have worked with countless amazing artists. Is there anyone whom you would like to collaborate with in the near future?

Michele: I would live to collaborate with a lot of different artist for a lot of different reasons. What I really love right now is collaborating and developing new artist from scratch because the amount of energy exchange that you have with an upcoming and creative young artist is incredible. It’s awesome. Being able to share my knowledge with them and also being got all their creative energy is really astonishing.

Q. If you could step into my shoes for a moment, what would you ask yourself that I haven’t yet?

Michele: I would ask myself that how much has music and music business has changed in the last ten twenty years. It has changed a lot. And I loved it. Due to digital platforms and music market being dominantly on digital streaming services, the way in which we are making music has changed in a way that songs are shorter, courses and hooks need s to come earlier in the songs. You need to be very aware as a producer of capturing your audience attention in the very first second of the song. You need to be creative in the structure and you need to be minimal in production and sounds to be able to make the song shine through small speakers, phones and laptops.

Q. So finally what message do you have for our listeners and where can they connect with you online?

Michele: My message to my listeners is don’t be scared to be creative during this uncharted territory we are venturing in and during COVID. Don’t be scared to explore new perspectives of your job because I think during rough time, if you are focused, you can come up with great new ideas about your job and passion. My fans can connect with me on multiple levels during the pandemic I started to focus on my socials. Every week I have appointments on both Instagram and you tube. You can reach me on Instagram by Kaneepa, that’s my Instagram name. Or you can reach me on you tube with the same name. Or you can reach me on twitch with my full name that is www.twitch.tv/michelecanova, I will be ready to answer all your questions. Thank you very much.

Thank you so much. You know you are right people need to experiment with new things. So thank you very much. It was very great insight on how things work behind the scene because it’s usually like we hear a song and like it and then we move on. We never get to know what really happens behind the scene. You were super insightful today and gave such a beautiful message. Thank you once again for that. We would be excited to have you again on our podcast. Thank you so much.

Michele: Thank you so much UnitePod for having me on your podcast. I wish a great 2021 to everyone listening to the podcast.
